Snoring Splint

dentist tunbridge wells

Stop snoring – for good!

You might be surprised, but the dentist is often the best place to start when seeking an effective solution for snoring! Once you understand the primary causes of both simple and complex snoring, it becomes clear why we’re uniquely equipped to help you achieve restful, uninterrupted sleep.

The animation illustrates how snoring and sleep apnoea can occur. The Sleepwell anti-snoring device gently positions the lower jaw (mandible) forward during sleep. This keeps your airway open, allowing air to flow freely into your lungs, improving sleep quality and significantly reducing the risk of apnoea or hypopneas.

Treatment Overview

How do snoring splits work?

Snoring occurs when airflow is obstructed due to relaxed throat muscles or improper tongue positioning. A snoring splint gently pushes the lower jaw forward, which helps keep the airway open and reduces vibrations that cause snoring. This results in quieter, more restful sleep for both the snorer and their partner.

Does it work?

Yes – it is the most clinically proven dental device available for the treatment of snoring.

What are the benefits of a snoring splint?

  • Non-Invasive Solution – Unlike surgical treatments, snoring splints offer a simple and painless way to reduce snoring.
  • Improves Sleep Quality – By reducing snoring, both the user and their partner can experience better, uninterrupted sleep.
  • Portable and Easy to Use – Unlike CPAP machines, snoring splints are small, lightweight, and easy to carry.
  • Cost-Effective – Compared to other treatments, snoring splints are an affordable option for snorers.

Considerations and Potential Side Effects?

While snoring splints are generally safe and effective, some users may experience:

  • Jaw discomfort – Mild soreness that usually subsides as the user adjusts to the device.
  • Excessive salivation or dry mouth – Some users may need time to adapt to the splint.
  • Not suitable for everyone – Those with severe sleep apnea or dental issues may need alternative treatments.

How long does it take to adjust to a snoring splint?

Most users adapt within a few days to a couple of weeks. Some discomfort is normal initially but usually subsides with continued use.

Can snoring splints be used for sleep apnoea?

Snoring splints may help mild to moderate sleep apnea but are not a substitute for CPAP therapy in severe cases. Dr Emma Wates is dual qualified as a doctor and a dentist and will advise you on your best course of treatment.

Can anyone use a snoring splint?

Most adults can use a snoring splint, but those with severe dental issues, TMJ problems, or significant sleep apnoea may require a different course of treatment or further referral.

Will I find it comfortable?

During the clinical trial, 98% of patients found the device comfortable and very well tolerated.
